Dave and Sam on the trail....
I'm Dave - outdoorsman, educator, and dad, amongst other attributes. I have over 30 years of personal and professional experience in the outdoors and education worlds. I'm an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), former Outward Bound instructor and NYS rock climbing guide, and current Wilderness First Responder. While I climb a lot less these days, I still hike, camp, backpack, and fish whenever I can. The gear I talk about on this blog is generally under $40 but highly recommended based on my experience using it (or sometimes other trusted reviews). These days I often lose things, and I'm generally hard on stuff, but I'm still a big gear-head so keeping things inexpensive but high quality are the two important criteria in my reviews. And usually (not always) whether the item is light and compact. Hacks and skills are those I've found to be useful in various circumstances. Most of the gear links here are affiliate. I hope you find some info on this blog helpful to you.
